Place to find the traditional herbal liqueur - original recipe from Celle’s old ‚apothecary‘ shop
One of quintessential classics of Celle’s of culinary heritage is the ‘Alter Provisor’, a unique, amber-coloured herbal liqueur that has been enjoyed in Celle for over 100 years.
Made according to an old family recipe, Alter Provisor was first produced and sold in Celle’s Ratsapotheke on Zöllnerstrasse. Since 2014, the hand-made Alter Provisor has been available exclusively from the official shop on Bergstrasse. Owner Dörte Hirschfeld still makes the soothing liqueur according to the same recipe and with the original equipment, as she did for many years in the Ratsapotheke. It is her expertise and experience make the Alter Provisor what it has always been - a special and cherished tradition in Celle.
The cosy shop is lined with original old pharmacy cabinets, reminiscent of the history of the liqueur and invites you to browse – you’ll find specially selected home and decorative accessories, leatherwork and handmade items, rarities and unique objects
The small, cosy inner courtyard is a place to linger. Here, Dörte Hirschfeld also offers various Provisor specialties and other drinks.
