Founder of Agricultural Science
The marble statue of Albrecht Thaer which stands on a red sandstone pedestal, was donated by the Affiliated Celle Agricultural Society and in 1873, it was erected in the Trift Park on the 45th anniversary of his death.
The pedestal bears the following inscription: THE FOUNDER OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE AND FARMING
It was created by the Celle sculptor Ferdinand Hartzer. The memorial is a good example of late classicism, in which the design is not determined by the abstract or remote, but by a focus on reality. Its animated stance within its formal setting depicts Thaer, the great researcher and scientist holding a plow with one hand in a practical manner and the other arm raised in a gesture of teaching.
