Bronze statue of ‚Wohlklang‘ the Stallion in Freedom Dressage
The story of the most famous of all the Celle stallions begins when, as a three-year-old, Wohlklang arrived at the stallion testing institute in Westercelle in 1965. Wohlklang could stand on his hindquarters, could be ridden with ease and passed all tests with flying colours. Wohlklang was considered to be one of the best stallions of the Celle State Stud, which even took him to London. There, too, he delighted audiences and especially the Queen, who invited him to Windsor for a private performance.
Today a bronze sculpture, "Stallion Wohlklang in Freedom Dressage", stands against the backdrop of the Celle Palace as a memorial to this famous Celle stallion.
The memorial was made possible thanks to a donation by the Stadtsparkasse Celle, on the occasion of bank’s 150th anniversary in 1984. The statue was unveiled at a ceremony to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Celle State Stud on the 29th of August 1985, which took place on the parade ground, followed by the famous stallion parades. On the 12th of October 1985, the statue was presented to the general public and transferred to the grounds of Celle Palace, where it can be seen today.
The designer for the statue was Uirich Conrad, from Worpswede.
