Bronze Memorial to Ernst. Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg

The bronze monument to Duke Ernst the Confessor was created in 1992 by the sculptor Waldemar Otto, from Worpswede. The monument stands at south wall of the St. Mary´s Town Church, on the edge of the Stechbahn.

On the column that bears the bust is the inscription "Let This Word Stand" from the Reformation hymn "God is our Fortress". The shape of the scroll, with its spiral inscription and which entwines the column, represents the Reformation confessional "Confessio Augustana", the signature of which earned the Duke his nickname.
